LOVE WITHOUT END: JESUS SPEAKS by
Glenda Green is among my favorite of all books. My first copy was a
paperback. Within a couple of years it was so dog eared with page markers
and sections repeatedly read, that despite its solid construction it
began to fall apart. So recently I have purchased a hard copy of the
tenth revised edition.
I have not found it in the local bookstores I frequent. Why - I don’t
know. Could it be reference to Jesus? So much has happened and ‘been
done to us’ in the name of Jesus. I think the name Jesus has been
so misused that it confuses us.
That is one thing I like about this book. In it he speaks for himself.
What he has to say is stunningly interesting. How is it that he has
come to speak for himself? Well now there is a story!
In a nutshell, it is like this: Glenda Green is a very respected and
well-established portrait painter and scholar. Despite her initial resistance,
she is guided to paint a portrait of Jesus. Much to her surprise he
shows up to ‘sit’ for it daily for three months. They have
conversations and she meticulously records these conversations each
evening. Now I admit that I can’t know that this story is true.
What matters is not how this book came to be, but the message it offers.
Glenda is very intelligent and articulate. Yet there is a clear distinction
between her thoughts and contributions and what Jesus says. What he
says is…..sublime – with a vibration of LOVE and intelligence
unto itself.
I have never read such clarity, such love articulated. The chapter on
the intelligence of the heart is riveting.
When I read books that I plan to keep, I highlight or underline parts
I find deeply inspiring. In LOVE
WITHOUT END, I found myself highlighting almost every word attributed
to him, whoever Jesus is.
It is a book I continue to re-read and re-read. With each reading something
deeper wakes up in me. The source of the message in this book is LOVE,
PURE LOVE. PURE LOVE articulated with awe-inspiring elegance and beauty
that opens the heart.
