Meditating on Light

The practice of meditating on the inner Light is spoken of repeatedly by many of the ascended masters.

Clearly it is one of the most powerful and in the beginning more difficult of spiritual practices, and so worth the effort we make to spend even a few minutes a day focusing on this inner Power.  For even a few minutes of connection with his powerful inner Source  can counterbalance the negativity of the rest of our day.

Below are two references to the practice. The first is from St. Germain, from Unveiled Mysteries by Godfre Ray King, the second is from A Course in Miracles, lesson 44.

"I Live in the Light"

The Teaching of St. Germain

"The first step to the control of yourself is the stilling of all outer activity of both mind and body. Fifteen to thirty minutes at night before retiring and in the morning before beginning the day's work, using the following exercise will do wonders for anyone who will make the necessary effort.

"For the second step: make certain of being undisturbed, and after becoming very still, picture and feel your body enveloped in a Dazzling White Light. The first five minutes while holding this picture, recognize and feel intensely the connection between the outer self and your Mighty God Within, focusing you attention upon the heart center and visualizing it as a golden Sun.

" The next step is the acknowledgement: 'I now joyously accept the fullness of the Mighty God Presence - the Pure Christ.' Feel the great brilliancy of the Light and intensify It in every cell of your body for at least ten minutes longer.

"Then close the meditation by the command: I am A Child of the Light - I love the Light - I serve the Light - I live in the Light - I AM protected, illuminated, supplied, sustained by the Light, and I bless the Light.

" Remember always: 'One becomes that upon which he meditates, ' and since all things have come forth from the Light, Light is the Supreme Perfection and control of all Things.

" Contemplation and Adoration of the Light compels illumination to take place in the mind - health, peace, harmony, and success to manifest in the affairs of every individual who will really do it and seeks to maintain it."

God is the Light in which I see.

Lesson 44 from A Course in Miracles

Begin the practice period by repeating today's idea, GOD IS THE LIGHT IN WHICH I SEE, with your eyes open, and close them slowly, repeating the idea several times more. Then try to sink into your mind, letting go every kind of interference and intrusion by quietly sinking past them. Your mind cannot be stopped in this unless you choose to stop it. It is merely taking its natural course. Try to observe your passing thoughts without involvement, and slip quietly by them.

While no particular approach is advocated for this form of exercise, what is needful is a sense of the importance of what you are doing; its inestimable value to you, and an awareness that you are attempting something very holy. Salvation is your happiest accomplishment. It is also the only one that has any meaning, because it is the only one that has any real use to you at all.

If resistance rises in any form, pause long enough to repeat today's idea, keeping your eyes closed unless you are aware of fear. In that case, you will probably find it more reassuring to open your eyes briefly. Try, however, to return to the exercises with eyes closed as soon as possible.

If you are doing the exercises correctly, you should experience some sense of relaxation, and even a feeling that you are approaching, if not actually entering into light. Try to think of light, formless and without limit, as you pass by the thoughts of this world. And do not forget that they cannot hold you to the world unless you give them the power to do so.
